The patient is then assigned an “Attending Provider,” which functions much like a primary care physician in the workers’ compensation system—coordinating the claim and referring the patient to appropriate specialists.
• This practice works closely with many Occupational Medicine clinics that serve as the Attending Providers, while the practice functions as the specialty referral source, primarily performing EMGs and injections. The physiatrist’s role is to help patients recover and return to work; if conservative care is unsuccessful, the patient may ultimately be referred for surgery.
