Responsibilities:

  • Assist with development and launching of a 24-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, on site with Atlanta’s only Level 1 trauma center and the leading Stroke Center of Excellence in the Southeastern USA
  • The unit opens July, 2024
  • This unit is designed to accept medically complex SCI, TBI, Stroke patients in transfer from the ICU/Step-down units to improve successful and efficient discharge rate to home for patients whose lives have been saved, however, they may not otherwise qualify for acute rehabilitation services elsewhere due to limited funding.
  • Full-time faculty member
  • 2 doctors on work in the unit so each covers 12 beds
  • You are the patient’s primary doctor

Call:

  • 1:6
  • Supplemental pay possible if you do more call
  • 3 weeks of call each year
  • Monday through Sunday
  • When on call cover 24 beds

Reason for opening:

  • Building out a 26-bed inpatient rehab unit at Grady Hospital to be operational next year at this time; can start September, 2023
  • Plans are to have 2 residents rotate through Grady Hospital’s rehab unit

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Board Certified physiatrist with excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Graduate of a U.S.-accredited medical school
  • Have at least 3 years of experience beyond residency/fellowship training
  • Experience working with consults
  • Experience using medical databases, basic computer skills
  • Ability to self-organize and triage appropriately
  • Ability to work with other medical specialties
  • Experience/interest working with a broad array of diagnoses and consults
  • Desire to work in an academic teaching center
